Director of Construction

As the Director of Construction, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our construction projects. You will provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the construction field teams, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your expertise will be essential in coordinating and managing all construction activities, including procurement, planning, scheduling, and budgeting. You will openly communicate and share information with all Project/Program stakeholders including both external and internal. This position is based in the Cleveland, Ohio area, but will require some domestic travel.

Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the entire construction process from start to finish, ensuring compliance with design specifications, building codes, and safety regulations.
    • Work with team to develop, implement, and maintain construction plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation strategies to meet project objectives.
    • Review project plans, specifications, and other contract documents to ensure compliance with the project scope.
    • Verify accuracy of contract documents prior to them being issued.
    • Ensures adherence to the budget and, when unexpected complications or issues arise, makes quick and necessary adjustments.
    • Collaborate with local government officials, architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project requirements are met and potential issues are addressed.
    • Review and approve construction contracts, change orders, and payment requests.
    • Monitor project progress and performance, conducting regular site visits, inspections, and audits to ensure quality, adherence to schedule, project plans and company policies.
    • Manage project closeout.
    • Participate in weekly project update meetings with internal team.
    • Coordinate procurement activities, including sourcing, negotiating contracts, and managing vendor relationships.
    • Collaborate with internal safety department to develop and implement construction safety protocols and training programs.
    • Develop and maintains good working relationships with a variety of people, including owners, managers, designers, supervisors, tradespersons, and craft workers.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, new construction technologies, and best practices to continuously improve construction processes.
    • Develop and implement strategies to optimize construction operations and drive efficiency.
    • Prepare, present regular project status reports to senior management and clients.
    • Review and work with Preconstruction to develop budget estimates and regularly communicates with team concerning budget progress and costs throughout the entire process.
    • Manage and lead actions that are necessary due to delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites.
    • Develop, execute the team’s strategic vision, aligned with overall company goals.
    • Provide leadership in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned Accounting skills/completing and maintaining schedules/project closeout/remove development division.

Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
    • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or other related field a plus
    • Knowledge and experience with the municipal development process including zoning process and development orders.
    • Strong knowledge of construction industry best practices, building codes, regulations, and safety standards
    • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale construction projects on time and within budget.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address project risks and challenges.
    • Strong construction accounting skills and ability to manage job cost.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams, stakeholders, and contractors.
    • Excellent time management skills and self-motivated
    • Exceptional leadership abilities, with a track record of motivating and inspiring teams to achieve project goals.

Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Teams.
    • Ability to remain flexible and efficient in a fast-paced environment.
    • Ability to make intelligent and quick decisions, working well under pressure, and when faced with unexpected occurrences or delays.
    • Ability to effectively multitask while analyzing and solving problems.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects at once.
    • Proficiency in Procore a plus.

Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
    • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at a time.
    • Travel required (approximately 5-10%).
    • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
